Launching the First Teleclinic in Kuujjuaq, Nunavik

On January 28, 2025, Connexion Nordique proudly launched its first teleclinic in Kuujjuaq, Ungava Bay (Region 17 – Nunavik), bringing much-needed allergy care directly to Inuit communities in the North. This initiative was made possible thanks to the dedication of the CLSC team, especially pivot nurses Megan Chagnon and Nancy Veilleux, whose hard work was crucial in getting the service up and running.

During this first teleclinic session, a variety of cases were assessed, including food allergies, asthma, and drug reactions—common health concerns in the region. The ability to provide care remotely has been a game-changer, allowing us to support local patients without them needing to travel long distances for specialized care.

Since June 2024, Connexion Nordique has been holding monthly teleclinics in the Cree communities of Region 18, with nearly 18 sessions completed so far. These teleclinics have allowed patients to receive follow-up care and allergy management from the comfort of their homes, cutting down on the need for travel and making it easier for people to access the care they need.

Expanding telemedicine to Nunavik is a major step forward in making healthcare more accessible to remote communities. By combining virtual visits with in-person care, we can provide more consistent and convenient support, ensuring that patients in both Nunavik and the Cree communities have continuous access to the allergy care they deserve.

Looking ahead, a visit to Kuujjuaq is planned for March 2025, where Dr. Michelle Kwok and Dr. Mariam Eldaba, an allergy fellow, will follow up with patients who were seen in the teleclinic. This visit will further strengthen the connection between virtual care and face-to-face visits, offering a comprehensive approach to patient care.
